Vandaag promoveert PhD student Willem Elbers op zijn proefschrift ‘The Partnership Paradox: Principles and Practice in North-South Relations’. Vice Versa interviewde hem en vroeg hem met name waar de grens nu precies ligt tussen het “marktdenken” en de minimaal noodzakelijke meetinstrumenten om het werk van NGO’s te kwantificeren.

In een interview met de Duitse krant Die Welt uit de Italiaanse premier Mario Monti zijn vrees voor Italiaanse opstanden. Niet omdat hij als premier op ondemocratische wijze is verkozen en nu noodgedwongen harde maatregelen moet treffen, maar omdat Europa geen erkenning geeft voor de opofferingen die de Italianen zich moeten getroosten.

Hoe kan de Europese economie ooit weer gaan groeien als Zuid-Europa moet bezuinigen en Noord-Europa koopt geen producten van ze omdat … Wij ook bezuinigen ?

Such a strategy would be combined with a continual presence in the streets and parks around issues of injustice such as foreclosures.
